PROGRAMS SPONSORED BY THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION

Over the past twenty nine years, the Manatee County Library Foundation has assisted the Manatee Library System in becoming a model for Florida and the rest of the country.

Since 1985, the Library Foundation funded projects and major improvements.  Some of the more recent projects include:

  • Raising historic sums (nearly $215,000) for the Library’s two-year I Am a LifeLong Reader literacy program to help address literacy in our County, particularly in the underserved areas. Another $65,000 is needed!
  • Contributing $100,000 in partnership with the County to upgrade the Library’s operating system (called the library card catalog) to a state-of-the art operations.
  • Purchasing computers and wireless networks (Wi-fi) in the branches
  • Digitizing pictures in the historical library
  • Purchasing books, DVDs and materials for all branches
  • Purchasing Overdrive, e-reader and e-Audio books and materials
  • Providing assistance to the Library’s low income patrons through “Right Service Florida”
  • Sponsoring the Library Logo & Motto Contest (“Sunshine for the Mind”)
